A mid-morning house fire June 14 on Legacy Drive in Campbell River had fire crews scrambling.
“We got calls around 9:45 there was a house on fire,” said Campbell River Deputy Fire Chief Kelly Bellefleur. “There was heavy black smoke coming from the upstairs. There was heavy smoke and flames coming from the second story at the back and one of the sides.”

The fire, which was located within 322 Legacy Drive, in the area of Evergreen Road and South Petersen Road, brought 18 firefighters out to combat it. Bellefleur said they had decided to go from inside to repel the flames.
“Our initial crew on scene made an aggressive interior attack, in order to knock the fire down,” explained Bellefleur.
The fire crews even got some assistance from an unlikely ally before his crews arrived, and Bellefleur was thankful for the help.
“It was very fortunate for the homeowners, that there was a construction crew in the area,” said Bellefleur. “The construction crew had a water tank with a cannon on top. They responded and used that prior to our arrival. It was key to keeping the fire from getting out of control and containing it.”
Homeowners were present at the time of the fire. They were quickly evacuated and were being assessed by B.C. Emergency Services on scene.
“They are being tended to right now,” said Bellefleur. “There do not appear to be any injuries at this point.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
