All okay after chopper crash in Gold River

Pilot and three fallers checked out after hard landing; Transport Canada investigates

Nootka Sound RCMP investigate a chopper crash in Gold River. The pilot and three fallers were able to walk away from the crash with minor injuries.

Four people escaped with minor injuries after a helicopter crashed just after takeoff Wednesday morning in Gold River.

"Reports indicate that the helicopter was attempting to take off from a local helicopter air base when it suffered possible mechanical issues. The helicopter crashed a short time after take off, suffering a hard landing on a nearby parking lot," said Const. Peter Koutougos of Nootka Sound RCMP in a news release.

The chopper, owned by Black Tusk Helicopters, took off around 7:30 a.m. when the accident occurred.

On board were three fallers who were being taken to a logging operation.The trio, plus the pilot were taken to hospital for further examination and treatment.

Transport Canada is investigating the crash.
