The Ken Forde and Big Rock boat ramps will get a tidying next week in preparation for the summer season.

Clearing of the Ken Forde Boat Ramp will take place on Monday, May 6, and Tuesday, May 7. The boat ramp will be closed while this work is completed. The city will continue clearing the boat ramp of sediment and debris until September, as conditions allow. This work must be done during low tide and is often restricted throughout the summer by the timing of low tide.

Big Rock Boat Ramp will be closed from Wednesday, May 8, to Friday, May 10, for sediment and driftwood abatement. This abatement work takes place twice a year. It involves:

· Removing driftwood in and around the boat launch.

· Transporting sediment accumulated on the south side of the boat launch to the north side.

· Making minor repairs to the boat launch.

All work will follow the memorandum of understanding that the City has with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. A biologist or environmental monitor will be present at all times, and a hydrologist will also be present during sediment removal.
