What started as something she learned with her mother as a little girl became the distraction artist Annie Aculiak needed to stop drinking later in life, she said.

Aculiak is an Inuit artist who stitches scenes from the North using felt. She said the art she creates reminds her of home and family. One scene is her mother and her father on Christmas Eve long ago.

Acuilak is on a tour of the Island at the moment. She stopped to show and sell her art at the Campbell River Common’s indoor market on Saturday afternoon.
