Campbell River can look forward to an early ‘long weekend’, full of fun, sex and sassyness, thanks to Rivercity Players.
The Players will be presenting The Long Weekend, a brilliant comedy by Norm Foster who has been referred to as Canada’s Neil Simon. Foster is known worldwide for his biting humour and insight into the everyday tribulations of life.
“It is a fantastic script to work with,“ says director John Godfrey. “The way Foster writes is so fresh and witty that the cast finds it hard to keep straight faces even though they have heard the lines over and over again.”
In the play, Wynn and Max Trueman, a lawyer and a psychiatrist (played by Denis Collins and Christina Peterson) are hosting their friends Roger and Abby Nash, a math teacher/wannabe screenwriter who’s wife is a fashion store owner (played by Peter Marcin and Lisa Gentry) for a weekend at their new country cottage.
Right from the very beginning the truth and lies of this long friendship come to light and, with characters as varied as these, be prepared for lots of surprises, biting comedy and lots of laughs. This is the first major production to be presented in Rivercity Players’ own Studio Theatre at 1080 Hemlock Street.
The show runs May 10 through 13 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee at 2 p.m. on May 13. Tickets are $15, available at Impressions Gallery, Comfort Zone and the Campbell River Laudromat.
