Students encouraged to audition for Aladdin Jan. 25

The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) is coming to Campbell River next week to hold an audition for its upcoming production of Aladdin.

More than 50 local students are expected to take part in this original musical adaptation.

The MCT audition will take place Jan. 25 at Penfield Elementary from 3-5 p.m. Those auditioning should arrive at 2:45 p.m. and plan to stay for the full two hours, according to a press release from School District 72, which is bringing the MCT residency to Campbell River.

Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition.

Students from kindergarten through Grade 12 are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary.

Among the roles to be cast are Aladdin, his mother, the Princess Dory and her father, the Sultan, along with his adviser, the Grand Vizier. Roles will also be cast for the keeper of the Book of Answers, Dinazade, and her sister Scheherazade, as well as The Mysterious One and some mischievous Genies. Actors will also be chosen to play a stubborn Donkey and spunky Goat, scheming Cassim and Ali Baba, Sinbad and his Sailors, wise-cracking Palm Trees and fleet-footed Camels, A Cave of Wonders, Vagabonds and a pack of lost Penguins.

Assistant Directors will also be cast to aid in rehearsals throughout the week and to take on essential backstage responsibilities.

The MCT’s touring productions are complete with costumes, scenery, props and makeup.

MCT Tour actor/directors will conduct rehearsals throughout the week from 3-7:30 p.m. each day.

Aladdin will be presented Jan. 30 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Timberline Theatre. Tickets are $10 and will be available at Penfield Elementary school and at the door one hour prior to each show.
