Life Drawing with Glen Chambers

Tuesday evenings, 7-9 p.m. Feb. 14 to March 21

Life Drawing sessions are open to those who wish to practice drawing the human figure in a group setting. There is no instruction, just the opportunity to draw a live model in a variety of poses in the company of other artists. Everyone, at any level or skill, is welcome.

Easels and tables are provided, but bring your choice of drawing or painting materials and the Gallery will provide the model.

Poses will be timed, beginning with a few short warm-ups, and then transitioning to longer poses. Participants can register and pay for all six sessions prior to the start date for $62.50 plus GST or pay a drop-in rate of $12.50 per session.

Watercolours with Catherine Martha Holmes

Wednesday afternoons, 1-4 p.m. March 1 to 29

Beginners interested in exploring poured watercolours will learn this art of layering transparent watercolours, similar to silkscreen printing. Participants will transfer or draw an image onto stretched watercolour paper, then create a painting by layering paint, preserving the different values of a composition with drawing gum between each pour.

The cost is $140, or $120 for gallery members, plus GST, but participants are also asked to bring an additional $30 for supplies (to be paid to the instructor).

Holmes will also be offering Advanced Poured Watercolours on Wednesdays from April 12 to May 17, also from 1 to 4 p.m. for experienced artists interested in exploring this art form further. The cost for the advanced class is $140 or $120 for gallery members, plus GST, plus the $30 supply cost.

Introduction to Drawing with Catherine Martha Holmes

Wednesday afternoons, 1-4 p.m. March 7 to 21

This is a beginner class, so everyone is welcome. During these three Wednesday afternoon sessions, from 1 to 4 p.m., participants will become familiar with various drawing tools as well as different papers. Students will begin in an experimental way, becoming comfortable with supplies and mark making. The cost for this workshop is $130 or $110 for gallery members.

Beginner Sculpting: Paper Clay with Mary Deveau

Wednesday evenings, 6:30 to 9 p.m., March 15 to April 5

Build your own sculpture using slab and coil techniques, then imprint textures, add embellishments and explore your own style. After being kiln-fired, paint your sculpture with acrylic paints and stains to bring out the textures and highlights. The cost for this class is $160 or $140 for gallery members, including all materials and firing fee.

Silk Screen Printing with Darren Larose

Saturday afternoons, noon-4 p.m. April 22 and 29

This workshop will teach participants the process of successful silkscreen printing, from building your own frame to printing your image. Participants can print on t-shirts, fabric, paper, wood, or whatever else they choose. This is an introductory course and the focus will not be on artistic skill, but rather on process. The cost is $150, or $130 for gallery members, plus GST, and includes all supplies.

Youth 19 and under pay at a rate of 30 per cent off the regular price, and the Gallery does offer some subsidies (50 per cent off) for those who need subsidizing. For more information, please contact the gallery at 250-287-2261 or email contact@crartgallery.ca
