Local wines will be paired with locals foods at the Alpine Wine and Food festival at Mount Washington today and tomorrow.

If you’re looking to indulge this weekend – and lets be honest, who doesn’t like to indulge now and then – then you need to check out Mount Washington’s Alpine Wine and Food Festival.

Delicious food and great live music will accompany a selection of 40 tantalizing wines at the Raven Lodge tonight and a sumptuous Wine Pairing Dinner will be held Saturday evening.

“We have some of the best wine varietals from our local region that will compliment famous local food like Kusshi Oysters on Friday evening,” explains Event Coordinator Marina Stevenson. “And our Wine Pairing dinner on Saturday night is a great way to learn more about local wines while enjoying fabulous food and stunning views.”

The wine list for Friday’s festival includes the following wineries and vineyards: Averill Creek Vineyard, Blue Moon Estate Winery, Sumac Ridge, Woodbridge, Sonoran Winery, Saturna Island, Merridale Ciderworks, Freehouse Wine and Spirits, Inniskillin, Dirty Laundry, Muse, Stile Wines, Peacock and Martin, Coastal Black, Primal Roots, Mistaken Identity and Beaumont Family Estate Winery.

As if wine wasn’t delicious enough on it’s own, fresh B.C. salmon, a selection of specialty Saputo cheeses, BC grown oysters and a selection of fine appetizers will be available for palate-pairing perfection. The Wire Choir Jazz Trio will bring  the classics and provide the perfect musical accompaniment to the evening.

A silent auction will be held during tonight’s Wine and Food Festival. The auction will benefit the Vancouver Island Mountain Sports Society, an organization that seeks to nurture emerging mountain sports athletes on the Island and help prepare them for elite national and international competition.

Mount Washington will be offering free shuttle buses to and from the festival Friday evening. Departure is at 5:15pm from the Driftwood Mall in Courtenay and will return guests safely after the event.  Bus capacity is limited and will accommodate passengers who reserve their seats online or by phone when booking their tickets.

The two-day event begins Friday night with the classic Alpine Wine and Food Festival which runs from 6-9 p.m. at the scenic Raven Lodge. Tickets are $30 per person. Saturday’s sumptuous Wine Pairing Dinner takes place at the Alpine Lodge and gives you wine pairing with six courses for only $75 per person. You can purchase tickets to the events a la carte or book the entire weekend as a package with accommodation and Mile High Chairlift Ride.
