Seventy Voices join together on Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Tidemark Theatre to help usher in the holiday season.
For over 34 years, the Campbell River Singers’ Christmas Concert has been a Campbell River tradition. Conductor John Montgomery has been working hard with the choir to bring together a wonderful selection of classical and memorable Christmas pieces.
This year’s concert is being dedicated to the memory of Dave Nilson, one of the choir’s founding members. Nilson loved to sing, and he will be missed.
The singers are excited to be performing excerpts from Handel’s Messiah accompanied by an eight piece orchestra of talented local musicians. The final piece of the Messiah, the “Hallelujah” chorus with trumpet fanfare is sure to thrill all listeners.
A more recent work is Daniel Pinkham’s Christmas Cantata, which was composed in 1957. The choir will be performing this piece accompanied by a Brass Choir composed of Trumpets, French horn, and Trombone.
O Little Town of Bethlehem, arranged by John Leavitt, is a multi-part cantata arrangement that will have a String Trio accompaniment. On This Shining Night, with Silent Night, and The Manger in Bethlehem are beautiful, gentle carols that will be presented with Flute accompaniment. O Holy Night is a powerful gospel rendition of the well know Christmas Carol. Rounding out the evening will be a Christmas Carol sing-a-long.
