Life's a beach for local poets

Spoken-word poets invited to share during open mic debut at beachside Foggdukkers Coffee March 26

The Beach Poemers invite all spoken-word poets to share their work in an open mic poetry reading Thursday, March 26, at the beachfront Foggdukkers Coffee Shop at 907 S. Island Highway.

“This is our first reading,” said organizer Nicole Girard, who teaches poetry through Elder College. “We’re sort of testing the waters to see how many people come. Hopefully, it can become a monthly event, possibly more if people want.”

Foggdukkers already hosts weekly music open mic events on Wednesdays during the summer.

Next week’s poetry reading is open to all ages, and there is no admission charge to read or simply enjoy the poetry in the shop or, possibly, at the fire pit outside.

“Weather permitting, we’ll be in the open air, reading poetry on the beach,” said Girard.

The open mic reading is scheduled from 6:30-7:30 p.m. To participate, sign in with Girard by 6:20. For more information or to inquire about poetry instruction, contact Girard at 250-504-0147 or pixbynic@mac.com.
