It’s time to talk about time.

While it is an obvious subject for Stephen Hawking, time is central to Island Voices Chamber Choir – by keeping time, they can perform as one voice, singing in time and having a good time. Time is so important that Island Voices has titled their upcoming concerts in Courtenay and Campbell River “It’s About Time!”

Choir director John Hooper notes, “When I started to look at the pieces we are singing, the word ‘time’ kept coming up. One obvious piece is titled Time, a high-energy song about how we rush around doing this and that while time slips through our fingers. But there is also a Gloria Patri that is part of the Roman Catholic Liturgy of the Hours. We’re singing in Mandarin Chinese and Portuguese for the first time. Both Meditation and Rain are an invitation to remove yourself from this time. Serenity Prayer asks us to live one moment at a time. Really, it’s all about time.”

And Island Voices will still have time to sing the rousing Fiddler of Dooney, a beautiful Lux Beatissima, an English madrigal, and the world premiere of a delightful piece by one of its choristers, Georgina Nicoll.

If you’re ready for some timely music, Island Voices will be in concert on Saturday, March 16 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Peter Anglican Church, 228 South Dogwood Street, Campbell River, and on Sunday, March 17 at 2:30 p.m. at Native Sons Hall in Courtenay.
