Island Voices Chamber Choir loves to sing, so it is no surprise that they are offering two more concerts in early May titled “One More Time!” where they will perform a compilation of pieces from their fall and winter concerts.

At their most recent concerts, they asked each audience member to choose a favourite piece. The top vote-getter was “Sweet and Low,” a lovely lullaby composed by Merville resident and choir member Georgina Nicoll. But the choir will also present a beautiful “Sanctus” composed by Craig Courtney and directed by local conductor Denise Marquette. And it will be ‘One more time’ for the mythological drama of “Perseus,” the intense passion of “Sing Me to Heaven” and the painting of nature in “Rain,” as well as the spirited Canadian composition “Gloria Patri,” the piece that gave goosebumps to several audience members in March.

For the pieces that are being performed again, this will not be a simple redo of the music. As Island Voice director John Hooper explained, “More than a mere repeat, the reprise of repertoire provides the choir the opportunity to take its performance to the next level and gives the audience the chance to hear music in a richer way.”
