Three-time Grammy Award winner Lucinda Williams is coming to Vancouver Island MusicFest.

“We’ve waited a long time for Lucinda,” said Doug Cox, MusicFest artistic director. “She was originally booked for VIMF 2020 which was cancelled due to the pandemic so to finally have her perform at MusicFest is a big deal for us.”

For Cox this is a dream come true.

“She is one of my all-time favourite performers and having her recognized as one of the ‘Greatest Female Songwriters Of All Time’ by American Songwriter, alongside Brandi Carlile, Dolly Parton, Joni Mitchell and Taylor Swift, speaks volumes.”

Williams has won three Grammy Awards, from 17 nominations, and received two Americana Awards from 12 nominations. Additionally, Williams ranked in the top 100 on VH1’s Greatest Women in Rock & Roll. She was named ‘America’s best songwriter’ by Time Magazine and chosen by Rolling Stone as one of the top 100 greatest songwriters of all time. Williams was also inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame in 2021.

Lucinda Williams’s music has gotten her through her darkest days. Over the past two years, it’s been the force driving her recovery from a debilitating stroke she suffered on Nov. 17, 2020, at age 67. Her masterful, multi-Grammy-winning songwriting has never deserted her. Her stunning, 16th studio album, Stories from a Rock n Roll Heart, brims over with some of the best work of her career. And her distinctive vocals sound better than ever. Stories from a Rock n Roll Heart is set for release on June 30.

Through all the hardships Williams has faced, her music has kept her going and continues to bring her success. The past year has seen Williams honoured by BMI for her songwriting, her induction into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame, and a Grammy Week tribute at the Troubadour, with her songs performed by a variety of Americana artists. Her performance with Willie Nelson on Billy Joe Shaver’s Live Forever won the Grammy for Best Country Performance.

Williams will perform Saturday night at Vancouver Island MusicFest which takes place July 12 – 14. For tickets and information go to islandmusicfest.com
