Go green at contra dance

Pop into your greenest leprechaun leotard and sashay over to the Big Yellow Merville Hall for a St. Patrick’s Day Ultra Green Contra Dance.

On March 19, it will be all green and gold as the Funtime Fiddlers kiss the Blarney Stone and pump out the jigs and reels for the highly popular contra dances. Led by our own daffodowndilly dance caller, June, you’ll frolic about the dance hall with laughter and a light heart. All are welcome to attend this family-friendly function

At 7:30 p.m., as Irish luck would have it, the Funtime Fiddlers leap onto the stage, start the music and the gaiety begins. Single dancers and families are very welcome. Singles can pair up with anyone during the Contras and our Contra sets last about 15 to 20 minutes. In between the called Contra dances, we’ll play waltzes and reels, jigs and swing tunes, as well as line up some talented soloists for some Irish inspiration.

Doors open at 7 p.m. It costs $10 for adults, $5 for youth (kids six and younger get in for free) or come as a family for $22. A free workshop starts at 7 p.m.
