The Campbell River Art Gallery invites you to stop by and enjoy two new exhibitions, Lament of the Butterflies by Lower Mainland artists Edith Krause and Doris Auxier, and Vestiges by Campbell River artist Bob McLeod.
Both of these exhibitions open July 31 and remain on display until Sept. 12.
Lament of the Butterflies, co-sponsored by MacVeigh Contracting and John and Bania Chan, is comprised of two bodies of work.
There’s an installation entitled Mausoleum: Red List Lament by Auxier that consists of paintings of endangered or “red list” plants suspended on piano scrolls surrounding a pillar of light, as well as a series of multi-media works called The Butterfly Effect, by Krause, that layers screen-printed maps of invasive species and digital photographs of butterfly wings to create beautiful and disturbing images.
McLeod’s Vestiges is an exhibition of multi-media sculptures, mainly glass blown through found metal hardware and parts.
The exhibition, sponsored by Gary and Pam Dobbs, is inspired by cast-off parts found along our shores and in the trash.
McLeod transforms these abandoned pieces into sculpture by blowing glass through metal forms, creating an aesthetic tension.
The public will get a change to meet all three artists at a special reception pm Aug. 21, 7 p.m. at the Gallery.
