The Campbell River Women’s Centre wants every child to be able to start the upcoming school year fresh with brand-new school supplies.
To help those less fortunate in the community, the centre is hosting its 14th annual school supply drive.
Georgette Whitehead, executive director of the Women’s Centre, said the goal this year is to have enough school supplies to fill 450 bags for students who come from low income families.
Last year, the initiative garnered 300 bags of supplies for students from kindergarten to Grade 12.
Anyone who would like to contribute can drop off donations of new school supplies to the Women’s Centre, which is located inside Rose Harbour on Dogwood Street, up until August 21.
The centre also welcomes monetary donations with cheques payable to the Vancouver Island North Women’s Resource Society; donations are eligible for a charitable tax receipt.
Donations can be dropped off between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday to Thursday. Anyone interested in volunteering to help organize the school supplies can contact the Women’s Centre by calling 250-287-3044.
The school supply drive is a project of the Vancouver Island North Women’s Resource Society, a local non-profit charity that has been in existence since 1984.
