Take part in this year’s CF Bowl for Breath

Bowl for Breath is a fundraiser close to River Stoppard’s heart.

Her daughter Sylvana Denroche,7, suffers from cystic fibrosis and Stoppard “can’t wait for a cure or control for cystic cibrosis to be found so Sylvana can look forward to a long and healthy life.”

Bowl for Breath, now in its 23rd year, raises money to help find a cure for cystic fibrosis, a disease which affects mainly the lungs and the digestive system.

In 1989, when the first Bowl for Breath was held, a person living with cystic fibrosis was fortunate to live long enough to finish high school. Today, thanks to improvements in medical care many people with the disease live beyond their thirties.

Which is good news for Sylvana who endures hours of therapies a day, must take a handful of pills when she eats and is frequently on antibiotics.

She also attends the cystic fibrosis clinic in Victoria at least every three months.

People of all ages can help make that possible for people like Sylvana by bowling at Crystal Lanes on Feb. 5-6.

Kids can bowl throughout the weekend, beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Students can register at participating schools.

Adults are invited to register for Rock ‘n Bowl on the Saturday evening at 7 p.m. Minimum donations are $20 per person.

Participants may collect pledges or make a minimum donation to cystic fibrosis.

For every $50 raised by an individual, their name will be entered in a draw to win a helicopter ride for five, courtesy of West Coast Helicopters.

To register call Cindy Stewart at 250-923-3382.
