Campbell River is now on the map musically speaking!
Local music teacher Cynthia Taylor has been elected as president of the BC Registered Music Teachers’ Association as well as the Vice-President of the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers.
An active participant in her local Branch, Provincially, and Nationally for many years, Cindy has held many Executive positions in our local Branch, as well as being the Canada Music Week Co-ordinator and Branch Provincial Delegate. She has been the Provincial Canada Music Week Co-ordinator for eight years, second Vice-President for four years, and first Vice-President for another four years, and is now President. She has also chaired several standing committees and has represented BC at the National level. This last July, she was elected Vice-President Nationally.
Along with these administrative duties, she has maintained a very heavy teaching schedule which she divides between her Campbell River students and those she teaches at Motif Studio in Courtenay. She is a very accomplished Musician in her own right and has earned degrees as a Performer as well as a Teacher from both the Toronto and Victoria Conservatories.
She accompanied Opera Singer (and former Campbell Riverite) Barbara Livingston for ten years and is the accompanist for the Campbell River Children’s Choir when they are on tour. She has just retired as Musical Director at the United Church after a period of thirty years!
Along with her devotion to Music, Ms Taylor is very committed to her immediate and extended family, frequently organizing and participating in large family events. Her youngest daughter has followed in her mother`s footsteps by pursuing a career as a music teacher. Cindy likes to spend her quiet time enjoying the ocean near her Storries Beach home. When the weather co-operates, she enjoys kayaking our coastline, and spending time with her little dog, Maggie.
She lives a very rich and full life which she says she enjoys experiencing in Campbell River.
