Cystic Fibrosis Canada, along with new title sponsor Carstar Automotive Canada Inc., is making big strides in finding a cure for cystic fibrosis.

The Carstar Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis Canada will take place Sunday, May 31 at 11 a.m. at Penfield School.

The walk is Cystic Fibrosis Canada’s largest event dedicated to raising funds and awareness in support of cystic fibrosis research and patient care.

Each spring, thousands of families, friends, coworkers and neighbours lace up their sneakers at nearly 70 walks across the country to help find a cure for cystic fibrosis.

Since 2005, participants and volunteers have raised an incredible $21 million.

The Campbell River chapter’s walk has received extra sponsorship from Marine Harvest and Capacity Forest Products.

Boston Pizza is once again providing a team prize of 10 $25 gift cards.

This prize was won last year by team Kolbie’s Klan lead by 6-year-old Kolbie Rosse.

The walk will be followed by a barbecue thanks to Dairy Queen, Thrifty Foods and Kinsmen members.

Media sponsors include the Campbell River Mirror and 97.3 FM the Eagle.

Walk organizer Krista Houston is hoping to get more teams registered this year.

“We are very excited to have a team from Carstar/TC Valley Collision already registered – they have really jumped on board and are not only raising funds but providing prizes as well,” Houston says.

“I am so grateful for all the community support – my best friend Kim Wood who has cystic fibrosis has had a rough year – I would give anything to help her get better.”

You can get involved by becoming a volunteer at the walk; by providing sponsorship or prizes; or by registering to walk. Register, fundraise or donate to Carstar Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis Canada at www.cysticfibrosis.ca/greatstrides
