Did you know that walking can have the same health benefits as running?

It’s true! Walking is a simple and fun way for people of all ages and abilities to feel good and be fit.

By adding just 30 minutes of brisk walking to your daily routine, you could: improve your physical and mental wellbeing, reduce the risk of chronic conditions, look and feel younger, lower your cholesterol levels, improve your attention and manage stress and anxiety.

On May 15 you can get all this and more while meeting up with your doctor in an informal, social setting at “Walk with Your Doc.”

Doctors of BC helps physicians to host walking events in their communities in mid-May every year. The walks are a fun and simple way to get patients and community members moving, and to discuss the benefits of daily activity while enjoying the outdoors.

The Campbell River walk starts at Centennial Park (4th Avenue and Birch St) at noon on Wednesday, May 15.

The doctors have a safe, flat 1.5 km route mapped out that is suitable for all types of people. Enjoy spring weather and moving your bodies and build community together. Bring your friends and family and anyone who is part of your wellness team!

“In our community we recognize that wellness is complex and involves many providers working together as a team. Physicians work closely alongside Nurse Practitioners, Midwives, Physiotherapists, Pharmacists, community nurses and home supports as well as family members. Everyone is welcome to take a break for short walk, ” explains Dr. Jennifer Kask.

The Campbell River Walk is supported by the Division of Family Practice and the Medical Staff Society. There is a free give-away that the first 100 participants can take home to use on future walk.

No sign up or cost - just turn up at Centennial Park.
