Flags to fly at Spirit Square

Council will spend $15,000 for new flag poles at Spirit Square.

The recommendation came from Mayor Andy Adams who said the additional poles would make it possible to accommodate requests from outside agencies to fly their flags while keeping the Canadian flag intact.

“To me to remove our national flag in front of City Hall is not appropriate,” Adams said. “By putting three additional poles in Spirit Square, we could probably display the national flag, the provincial flag, the city flag, and an additional flag. It also leaves the national flag here at City Hall uninterrupted.”

Coun. Larry Samson agreed it was a good idea.

“What I particularly like about it, with the community groups and organizations we honour with their flag, this will give them a much higher profile having their flag at Spirit Square than at City Hall,” he said.
