This year holds great promise as the year the Campbell River Community Foundation reaches its first million in endowed funds.
Projections for the year put endowed funds held by the Foundation at over seven figures for the first time ever.
The Board, lead by Judy Shepley can’t help but reflect on the extraordinary vision and effort by the first citizens who started the foundation back in the 1990’s.
“Really, it is all about the founders who believed that our community needed a long term plan for philanthropy,” Shepley said. “We owe our amazing year to their dedication and commitment to Campbell River.””
With the help of Barbara McMillan, the Director of Regional Strategies from the Community Foundation of Canada, the Board recently met to develop a two-year strategy.
That plan will take them beyond the first million while building awareness of the foundation’s work.
There is another milestone for the foundation this year, too. With this year’s community grants to be distributed in May, the Foundation will have given out over $100,000 in funding.
Over the years, that funding has been distributed to area non-profits for programs that benefit our community.
About the Campbell River Community Foundation:
Since 1992, the Campbell River Community Foundation (CRCF) has worked to create a legacy fund for our community.
That endowment fund serves the greatest needs of our citizens with funding to non-profit organizations via grants. In 2010, it granted almost $20,000 to the area for various projects.
The Campbell River Community Foundation is a member of the Community Foundations of Canada.
Nationally, CRCF is one of the largest supporters of Canadian communities, providing $176 million in support of local priorities and organizations in a single year.
