Brighten the holidays for Second Chance

Being away from family and one’s own community during the holidays can be a gloomy and lonely time, especially for the men at the Second Chance Recovery House.

But you can make a difference by donating a gift, cash or food or volunteering to cook Christmas dinner or wrap gifts.

Since 1990, Second Chance has been helping males 19 and older end their addictions to alcohol and drugs.

They help about 100 men each year.

Help make it a safe and festive season for them by donating an item by Friday, Dec. 18.

Donations can be dropped off at 647 Birch St or phone 250-830-1103 to arrange for pick up. Or email them at second.chance.recovery@gmail.com.

Suggested items include new shirts, track or sleep pants, hoodies, socks, underwear, razors, deodorant, shaving cream, shampoo, soap, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, slippers, wallets, coffee shop gift cards, gum, nail clippers, chocolate, playing cards, travel coffee mugs, back packs, mini flashlights, crossword/find a word/Sudoku books and pocket calendars/daytimers. Do not include mouthwash or Axe or Irish Spring products.

With the colder weather, they also need new or gently used sweaters, winter coats, vests, toques and gloves.
