Bike to Work Week: success in employee support

Campbell River Veterinary Hospital in Willow Point is a great example of a successful Bike to Work Week employee team.

Six out of the seven staff participated in Bike to Work Week last year, and they rode to work on a daily basis.

Even after Bike to Work Week was over, all of the team members continued to cycle to work through the rest of the summer and fall.

Surprisingly, prior to Bike to Work Week, four of the six team members did not even own a bike, and now they bike to work regularly.

Many of the staff had been interested in biking to work, but they had never had the personal motivation to follow through with their good intentions.

With support from fellow staff members and group motivation, they managed to ride even on the rainy days.

Nicole is their team leader. She is proud of the team’s achievements and said that Bike to Work Week brought a sense of camaraderie to the staff.

Nicole noted how much they all enjoyed some of the breakfast celebration stations.

“It is a great way to start the day and a great social event for the staff,” she said.

This year, the staff are motivated once again. Their 2012 aim is to try to get the one remaining staff member to join their Bike to Work team, and they hope to get to more of the celebration stations.
