Premier David Eby,

You come across as a principled, thoughtful human being. For the life of me, I cannot understand why your government is seriously considering yet another LNG project – the Summit Lake project north of Prince George.

How many is this now, in the works or the planning stage – 4, 5, 6? These additional projects will have terrible consequences for the climate, the lands and the people of B.C.; more fracking in the beautiful Peace River country of northeast BC; thousands more wells drilled; millions more litres of our precious freshwater poisoned forever (and in a region threatened by drought); more methane flared and leaked into the atmosphere, causing more sickness for the people and animals up there from chemical pollution; and more controversial pipelines needing to be built through unceded, traditional First Nations’ territories to get the fossil gas to to terminals.

From a practical point of view, this is insanity. From a moral/religious point of view, this is sinful, bordering on outright evil. Please wake up and face the climate emergency we are now in. Stop financing and approving new fossil fuel projects. Invest more of our tax dollars in renewable energy production and in reducing our reliance on fossil gas. The times are crying out for bold, imaginative government initiatives.

Sincerely,

Murray Etty
