DIRSE,

Peter Michael

May 20, 1955 – Jan. 22, 2008

For those people who truly knew him, Peter had a big, warm heart. His family and friends experienced his energetic, joyful nature often while Peter went about the business of his many enterprises and adventures while including his friends and loved ones along the way.

Peter moved from Woodstock, Ontario to Quadra Island, British Columbia during the summer of 1981 where he acquired a 10-acre piece of land and built his comfortable home there amongst the big conifers, creating a beautiful, park-like setting in which to nestle the home he so loved – his major life’s work.

Peter was very sports-minded, playing on a Quadra baseball team, golfing in tournaments, fishing, hiking, SCUBA diving, and doing volunteer work on the construction of the skateboard park at the community centre for the kids of Quadra Island.

Peter worked even harder than he played. He worked as a professional welder with Wajax for 23 years, and was well-known on the west coast for his trade skill.

Peter’s last burst of energy came just before Christmas this winter as he was coming to terms with the sudden news that he had terminal cancer. Not wanting to disappoint family and friends back east who were expecting him, he flew back to Ontario with his sister, Karen. He found the energy to spend the holiday saying goodbye to family and friends before flying back to BC on January the 9th with his brother, Tom who was pressed into assisting Peter as Peter said his goodbyes to his BC “family”. Just three days before his passing, Peter visited his Wajax colleagues to say goodbye to them.

Peter will be missed by many friends and family members too numerous to list here, but he will always be cherished by his daughter, Petra, his mother, Ruth, and his brother, Tom, and sisters Karen and Daina. Peter’s long-time friend, Donna, and his life-long friend, Brad, were by his side. His four-legged pal, Sherman, will also miss Peter.

There will be a celebration of Peter’s life at Rebecca Spit on Friday, January 25th at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Roy Zimmerman facilitating.

There will be a second celebration of Peter’s life in Ontario at a time and place yet to be announced.

Rather than flowers, donations to the community charity of your choice in Peter’s name would be appreciated.
