Joseph Raeburne (Bernie) DOHERTY

August 8, 2007

DOHERTY,

Joseph Raeburne

"Bernie"

Campbell River has lost one of it’s dedicated citizens. On August 8th, 2007 peacefully at home in his sleep, just four months after losing his wife Lolita, Bernie has gone to join her.

Born July 30, 1934 to hard working Irish parents Bernie grew up in the Ottawa Valley. His spirit of adventure brought Bernie west at a young age, ending up in Courtenay where he met Lolita and quickly jumped into family life.

Bernie retired from a career with the Campbell River Fire Department and years of service with St. John Ambulance into one of service clubs and volunteering. His friendly face sold record amounts of raffle tickets and he garnished more than anyone during pledge drives.

He is survived by his six children; Jean (Pat) Scholefield, Barbara (Raghbir) Basi, Mary Houser, Peter (Lynn), Brian (Carmen), and Glen (April). By his 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Bernie leaves to grieve his sister Raeburne Orr, sisters-in-law Yvonne (Dave) Bond, and Georgina (Allen) Houghton, plus many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 18th, 2007 at the Campbell River United Church, 415 Pinecrest Road, Campbell River, BC.

In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated by the First Open Heart Society, P.O. Box 175, Campbell River, BC V9W 5A7, or Trinity Presbyterian Church, Box 495, Campbell River, BC V9W 5C1.
