Jim Loftin passed away at home on April 11, 2005. Jim had been a resident of Campbell River since December of 1992. He was born to John Franklin Loftin and Ada Jean Hill of Long Beach, CA on March 19, 1928. He was the youngest of four brothers and was raised in both Oregon and Washington.

He and his wife, Pat, spent the summers from 1993-2003 camping and fishing at Merrill & Ring Camp Ground at Rock Bay. Jim was well known amongst his friends and acquaintances for his quick wit and tall tales.

Jim was a veteran of the Naval Reserve and spent the last few months of WWII on a PT boat in the Pacific. He was a journeyman plumber and at one time was a member of the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union in Portland, OR; Jim was also a hydraulic jack operator. At the time of his death was still a member of the International Union of the Operating Engineers, Local 12 of Los Angeles, CA.

Jim was predeceased by his daughter, Jennifer; his parents; brothers, Jack, Bob and Bill and sister-in-law Beth. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Patricia; son Mike (Ann), daughter Lisa (Steve), daughter Mary and four grandchildren, Chris and Bethany Hopman, and Rachael and Nicholas Loftin.

The family wished to thank Dr. Klien, Dr. Helen Garson and the Palliative Care Team for their care, and the Lions Club. At Jim’s request, there will be no memorial service.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Palliative Care Unit.
