Passed away peacefully at the age of 98 at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital in Victoria on May 30, 2007. Her children, Bill Pearson and Jane Super were at her side. Helen was born August 28, 1908 in Nakusp, BC. She began her nursing career at Kootenay Lake General Hospital in Nelson, BC and in 1966 accepted the position of school nurse at Shawnigan Lake Boys School on Vancouver Island. She was a long time member of the Eastern Star belonging to chapters in Nelson and Victoria and was the organist for approximately 50 years. Her life was about service and she had a huge impact on the lives of many people. She loved music and played the piano at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital up until a few weeks before her death.

Helen is survived by her son, Bill (wife Janet) Pearson of Hamilton Ontario. Grandson Todd (wife Karin) Pearson of Taylor, Michigan and great-grandchildren Austin and Connor. Grandson Tobyn Pearson and wife Marta Cela of Trinidad. Great grand-children William and Jennifer Pearson of Hamilton, Ontario. Her daughter Jane (husband George) Super of Campbell River, Grandchildren Lesley (husband Eric) Super-Fuhr, David (wife Kristi) Super and Kendra Super, great-grandchildren, Jared, Sierra, Chloe Super, and her chosen great-granddaughter, Emilie Moon, all of Campbell River, B.C. She is also survived by her brother Dr. Joseph Gardner of Vancouver, BC, many nieces and nephews and many beautiful friendships.

Helen was pre-deceased by her husband Bolton “Bolty” Pearson, her sisters, Maude Dougan, Amy Denholme, Hildred Hughes, Betty Williams, her brothers, Hunter, Smith and Bert Gardner.

Bill and Jane are extremely grateful to the staff of Mount St. Mary Hospital where she was greatly loved and cared for. Special thanks to Father Dean Henderson. We are also grateful to the staff at the Dutch Bakery where Helen enjoyed her lunch every Friday for years, and was there just days prior to her death. Special thanks to our cousin Leslie Hughes and Alex, a close friend at Mt. St. Mary’s.

A celebration of life will be held in Victoria, the date and time to be announced. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations can be made to Mount St. Mary Hospital Foundation, 861 Fairfield Road, Victoria, BC V8V 5A9
