LEWIS,

Gladys (Jean)

The family of Jean Lewis regretfully announces the unexpected passing of our wonderful wife, mother and nana on Sunday, June 1, 2008 at the Campbell River Hospital. Born on October 1, 1928 in Bella Bella, BC to James and Gladys Inrig as the second youngest of six children.

Following a brief move to Vancouver, the family then moved to Quadra Island where she spent her childhood. In her teenage years she boarded in Campbell River and worked at the Willows Hotel (experiencing the earthquake of 1946), the Beehive Cafe and Laver's Department Store. Married on November 22, 1947 to Robert (Bob) Lewis, they lived on Quadra until 1950 at which time they bought a house in Campbell River where they still reside. On June 13, 1957 their only son Steve was born and Jean became a dedicated mother until she decided to reenter the workforce by taking up a post at Dairyland in 1969. Her son was married in 1981 to Michelle and she became a grandmother three years later with the birth of her first grandson Jordan followed by Brenden (1986) and Aaron (1990). Retiring from Dairyland in 1986, Nana (as she was affectionately known) spent the remainder of her life as an active member of the community being a member of the Eastern Star, Tirzah Club (Daughters of the Nile) as well as volunteering for the Canadian Cancer Society and the Canadian Red Cross. In later years she and Bob travelled and cruised to many parts of the world, often in the company of good friends and family. Most will remember her as an avid golfer who was repeatedly recognized in the local paper for her achievements with the Ladies Sequoia Springs Golf Club of which she was a longtime member. Her greatest passion was family, especially her three grandsons who were her pride and joy. Nana was always there for everyone when they needed her; always putting the needs of others above her own. She loved to entertain and the get-togethers with family/friends were always complimented by her homecooked meals that will never be parallelled. She is survived by her loving husband of more than 60 years Bob Lewis, son Steve, daughter-in-law Michelle, grandsons: Jordan (Kayla), Brenden, and Aaron, sister Eva-May Jamieson and numerous nieces and nephews. By request, no service will be held and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. The family also wishes to extend its gratitude to all those who expressed love and support as well as Dr. Mahoney, Dr. Shule, all emergency personnel and the staff of the ER and ICU who did everything they could to ensure that she was always comfortable.

We love and miss you greatly, and as you always said:

"Live each day to the fullest, for tomorrow may never come."
