Geneva Cecilia (nee Claton) BAIRD

August 25, 2007

BAIRD,

Geneva Cecilia (nee Clayton)

July 20th, 1912-

August 25th, 2007

Geneva peacefully went to the Lord to join her beloved husband Jim, who predeceased her November 9th, 1975.

She will be deeply missed by her daughters Sylvia Duggan (John) and Betty London (Don) and their families of 8 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

Geneva was the last of 11 Clayton siblings and leaves many relatives in the Comox Valley and the Campbell River area. A school teacher in Alberta before her marriage, the family moved to Courtenay in 1947. A Charter Member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Geneva was their drill team pianist in Courtenay for 25 years. She was also a member of the Catholic Womens League at Canadian Martyrs Church in Courtenay and St. Patricks in Campbell River. An active outdoor person with her Jimmy and family, she was also an avid duplicate bridge player, and loved scrabble, crossword puzzles, and dominoes. A devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Geneva will be missed and remembered by all who knew her for her sense of humour, love of life and adventurous spirit. Especially when holidaying with family and friends. She spent her final years under the wonderful care of the staff at Yucalta Lodge. Their gentle kindness is greatly appreciated by her family.

A Funeral Mass was held at St. Patricks Catholic Church on Tuesday, August 28th, 2007, at 1:00 P.M., with interment at the Courtenay Municipal Cemetery.
