Mom passed away peacefully on Good Friday after a long battle with dementia. She is predeceased by her parents Emma and Henry Ziolkowski, stepfather Frank Wortman, husband Glenn Liesch and sister Alice Sprout. She is survived by her brothers. George Ziolkowski and Wayne Wortman, sister Jean Selby, her sons Greg (Rhonda), Dan (Patricia), daughter Lisa (Roger), and three grandchildren Glenn, Scout and Kayla.

Flo was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan and moved to Victoria with her family at age nine. From there the family moved to the Comox Valley where Flo went to Tsolumn School. She was a star athlete in basketball and fastball, winning Island Championships in high school basketball in 1953 and 1954.

It was in Courtenay where she met Glenn who was the love of her life. They married soon after her graduation and she worked in Camp Vernon as the cook even though she had very little experience cooking. Mom became a wonderful cook quickly, (luckily for the crew) and was an excellent host at family gatherings. They settled in Kelsey Bay in 1960 where they lived and raised their family for many years. Mom’s athletic ability was on display as she won several awards in local logging competitions. They were both very involved in the community and have wonderful memories from that time in their lives together. The summers spent at Bear Lake where the family and many friends camped from Easter weekend on, are a particular highlight.

From there, the family moved to Ucluelet where Glenn took a management position with MacMillan Bloedel. After his passing, Mom moved to Campbell River where she lived until her passing.

The entire family wishes to thank the staff at Yucalta Lodge for the loving care that our mother received as a resident there, and Dr. Sutherland for his patience and care of our mother.

In lieu of flowers, you are encouraged to make a donation to the charity of your choice. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
