There is no scientifically proven exercise therapy that will reduce a scoliosis or prevent a curve from progressing. However, there are specialized exercise and rehabilitation programs which research has shown to be very effective to address the scoliosis curve. One such program is called ScoliBalance.

ScoliBalance is a scoliosis specific exercise program that follows the principles of the SOSORT international guidelines. In this program, providers teach individualized scoliosis corrections so that the patient learns how to improve their posture. From there, patients are taught exercises whereby they hold their ScoliCorrections while they perform exercises prescribed. The program often incorporates the use of a ScoliRoll to enhance the correction to the spine and posture.

Each patient is provided with an individualized home exercise program so that they can practice on their own. Daily practice for 20 minutes is recommended. In addition, the patient is often asked to use the ScoliRoll for up to 20-25 minutes per day.

The ScoliBalance program is often used by patients who wear a 3D custom scoliosis brace. Once the curve is beyond a certain size (usually 20-25 degrees in kids) then the ScoliBalance program is generally combined with bracing.

ScoliCorrections should be practiced without the brace so that the patient can achieve the best possible correction. Sometimes the patient will also be prescribed some general strength exercises to be performed in the brace.

Scoliosis management and rehabilitation is a field of specialty and should be guided by a knowledgeable, certified professional to get the right treatment at the right time.
