Brent and Kristie Cross recently presented the Campbell River Hospital Foundation with a donation of more than $7,450 to support the purchase of Bili Lights for the hospital’s Maternity Department in memory of Lyndon Cross.

Lyndon was a social worker who worked in youth protection services. He fought a short but courageous battle against cancer with strength and determination. He was an extremely dedicated and caring person trying to make a difference in the lives of those in foster care.

With the help of their team, the Penner Chargers, Brent and Kristie organize a tournament each year that honours Lyndon, with proceeds supporting our hospital.

Last year’s tournament raised funds towards the Bili Lights which help babies born with jaundice. The condition is seen in 30-60 per cent of full-term newborns and in nearly all premature infants, and occurs when a baby develops high levels of bilirubin, a byproduct of the normal breakdown of red blood cells.

The light therapy (phototherapy) from Bili Lights is the process of using light to eliminate bilirubin in the blood. The baby’s skin and blood absorb these light waves and change bilirubin into products that can pass through their system.

The donation is just the latest from the Cross family who will be raising money for the Hospital Foundation once again this summer.

Mark your calendars for June 9, 10 and 11 at the Campbell River Sportsplex, as the 10th annual Lyndon’s Legacy tournament is sold out with a wait list. Check out the amazing raffle table, food truck and ball games to support this worthy cause.

Anyone who would like to support the doctors, nurses and other key members of the local healthcare team, can make a donation to the Hospital Foundation online at www.crhospitalfoundation.ca or by calling 250-850-2418.
