The Campbell River Storm open its new season at home tonight

The Campbell River Storm open its new season at home tonight.

The Storm kick off its 2012/13 Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League campaign against the Oceanside Generals at Rod Brind’Amour Arena at 7:30 p.m.

The team is coming off an excellent pre-seaon, in which the Storm went 2-0, posting victories again the Comox Valley Glacier Kings.

Last Saturday, the Storm squeaked by the Glacier Kings 2-1 in Comox. The Storm followed that up with a 6-5 victory in the re-match at Rod Brind’Amour Arena Sunday night, which began with a tail gate party outside the arena.

The win Sunday took overtime and a shootout to decide, with Storm returnee Alex Grupe getting the game winner. Goals also went to Tyson Rennie (2), James Severs, Jesse Spooner, and Carsen McCullough.

The Storm follow up tonight’s game with a re-match against Oceanside on Saturday in Parksville.
