Storm goalie to play on U.S. university team

Campbell River Storm goalie commits to play for American university team

The Campbell River Storm is pleased to announce goaltender Jack Surgenor of Comox has committed to play for the University of Central Oklahoma for the 2014/2015 season.

“Jack has been an integral part of our program both on and off the ice with his character, work ethic and talent,” says Lee Stone, Storm head coach and director of hockey operations. “There is no doubt this commitment will inspire Jack to become an even (better) goaltender down the stretch for us and a future great Broncho.”

The University of Central Oklahoma is a Div I school in the American Collegiate Hockey Association, located in Edmond, Oklahoma. The Bronchos play in the Western Collegiate Hockey League division, against such schools as Arizona State University and University of Oklahoma. The school enrols nearly 18,000 students.

University of Central Oklahoma Head Coach Craig McAllister says Surgenor will be a great addition to the Bronchos.

“UCO is very fortunate to sign a goaltender of Jack’s ability and character,” McAllister says. “We feel that Jack has talent to become a premier goaltender in our league and allow us to challenge for the ACHA National Championship.”

Currently, Surgenor sits at or near the top in several of the goaltending statistics in the VIJHL, including 17 wins (second), 2.29 GAA (third), a .922 save percentage (second) and six shutouts (tied for first). Surgenor will look to continue his dominance of the VIJHL this Saturday as the Storm travel to Kerry Park to take on the Islanders.
