The Strathcona Nordics kick off their new training season with Spring Race Camp on Mount Washington last weekend.

The Strathcona Nordics enjoyed sunny skies during its Spring Race Camp on Mount Washington last weekend.

More than 50 racers from across Vancouver Island kick-started their new training season with a weekend of ski drills, nutrition discussions, new training diaries, and a whole lot of fun and games.

During the four-day camp, the cross-country skiers rose early, lathered on the sunscreen, and skied out to the sound of drumming grouse.

Staying at the new Mountain Centre and the Strathcona Park Lodge Alpine lodge, they also cooked together and enjoyed their own versions of once-popular game shows “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” and “Minute to Win It.”

The racers will now embark on their dryland training schedule until the snow flies again in the fall. The next time they ski on snow, they’ll be raring to go in winter 2013 races. For more information about the club and programs visit StrathconaNordics.com
