Jillian Legare and her B.C. teammates busted Ontario’s winning streak in a big way at the Canada Summer Games

The 20-year-old grew up in Campbell River and now attends the University of Victoria where she rows for the women’s 8s with coxswain team.

On Aug. 16, at Sherbrooke, Quebec, Legare fulfilled her pre-Games wish of breaking Ontario’s long winning streak in the 8s event, when the B.C. team won gold in convincing fashion.

The UVic girls rowed to victory in a time of 6:12.03 while Team Ontario was more than two minutes behind with a time of 6:14.99. Quebec took the bronze in 6:23.41.

According to Legare’s bio on the Team BC website, this is just her second year rowing. Growing up in Campbell River, she was an avid volleyball player, playing for the Crush and her high school team.

She graduated from Carihi in 2011.
