Local race car driver opened his season, south of the border, in fine fashion.

Campbell Riverite Chris Beaulieu was tops in the field last Saturday night at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington along with two other racers – Cory Sweatman and Henry VanDam.

Beaulieu is no stranger to the Harbor track.

His father Jason won the 2020 Northwest Modified Nationals at GHRW and Beaulieu had a top ten finish.

In the modifieds, Beaulieu started out in the fifth spot but by lap seven, had worked his way into second place and set his sights on the front runner.

Racer Shane Rau was able to hold off Beaulieu on a caution flag restart on lap 15, but the Canadian finally made the pass with four laps left in the race.

Beaulieu held on for the win, despite a last lap caution and restart when racer Jeff Foster spun out in turn two.

Beaulieu was also a heat race winner.
