Upper Island Riptides Joshua Kalhous and Corban Collett (in blue) gain control of the ball in last Sunday’s U14 Boys match against Saanich/Prospect Lake Fusion.

Marine Harvest U14 Boys Upper Island Riptide continues to assert itself as a force to be reckoned with, securing a 3-1 victory over the formidable Saanich Fusion/Prospect Lake on Oct. 18.

Coach Stephen Hall said, “Great game, with some really good spells of possession, very organized defence and fantastic counter attacking skills displayed by the lads today. The boys are really starting to gel, work together and each player had a strong match.

“The depth of our bench is also proving to be a very big asset as the lads that come on have an immediate impact, no matter who it is.”

Brayden Hues prevailed over Saanich’s strong goalkeeper with the 1st goal from a free kick 20 minutes into the game.

The last five minutes of the 1st half became very exciting as Fergus Hall earned the second goal with the assist from Corson Arbour.

Saanich Fusion returned scoring their only goal of the game and then one minute later Jerod Timothy scored on a beautiful corner kick that curved inside the far post.  This was an impressive, edge of your seat, evenly matched game to watch.

Riptide fullbacks had to be quick on their toes to keep the Fusion strikers at bay.  This solid performance from the defensive line was a major contributor to holding onto the lead.

Currently the Riptide holds seven wins and one loss this season.  The Marine Harvest U14 Boys Riptide next game is at home against Cowichan at noon, Oct. 25 at Pinecrest Elementary School.
