The Campbell River Ravens bantams swept their Vancouver Island lacrosse playoff series against Saanich last weekend and will attempt to defend their provincial championship in the Bantam B tournament July 15-19 in Kelowna.

The Ravens topped Saanich 11-8 and 10-6 in games played Saturday at the Island Savings Centre in Duncan. The 2-0 series sweep meant a third game on Sunday was unnecessary.

The Ravens will open Bantam B provincial play Friday, July 17, with pool games against Abbotsford and Port Coquitlam. Pool play wraps up the following day with a game against Prince George. The top two finishers in each pool will square off in the evening semifinal session July 18.

The Ravens won last year’s Bantam B provincial title with a 9-5 win over their Vancouver Island Lacrosse League rivals, the Juan de Fuca Whalers.

Meanwhile, the Ravens A2 midget team bowed out in its Island finals series with a pair of losses Saturday to Nanaimo, also played in Duncan.

Nanaimo posted wins of 9-3 and 10-3 over the Ravens.

The midget C finals, scheduled for Sunday between Campbell River and Juan de Fuca, were cancelled.

Peewee provincials

Campbell River’s Peewee C Ravens open play in the 2015 provincial championships today at Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows arenas.

The peewees will open with a 10:15 a.m. game against Delta in Pitt Meadows, then square off with Mission at 6 p.m. in the same rink. The Ravens will wrap up pool play against West Kootenay Saturday at 11 a.m. The top two teams in each pool advance to the provincial semifinals, to be played in Saturday’s evening session.
