The North Island Predators Association swam to new heights as they placed 13th out of the 29 scoring teams at last weekend’s Swim BC AAA Short Course Provincial Championships.
The crew of 19 (made up of swimmers from the Campbell River Killer Whales and Comox Sharks) did an awesome job and swam their best.
Melayna Beaudin and Brooke Lamoureux both pulled in two bronzes and one silver, while Jasmine Skuse won her first AAA medal, placing third in the 100 Breaststroke.
Neufeld added a pair of silver medals to the team’s medal count, while a pair of bronzes were each won by Jordyn Ryan in the 400 IM and 200 IM, Conner Skuse in the 1,500 Free and 400 IM, and Gabrielle Wolfe in the 800 Free and 400 IM. Mackenzie Paddington medalled in all of her individual events – two gold, two silver, and three bronze.
On top of all the medals, a total of seven club records were broken. Padington swam at record speed in the 800 freestyle and 200 breast, Jasmine Skuse in the 400 IM and 100 breast, and Cianna Dunn and Melayna Beaudin in the 100 backstroke. Swimming to 100 per cent best times were: Juliana Bartemucci, Melayna Beaudin, Dunn, Ian Ralston, James Sidhu, Conner Skuse, and Megan Wilson. The biggest improvement came from Wolfe as she shaved off over 16 seconds in her 800 freestyle to reach the Canadian Age Group Standard in a bronze medal time of 9:56.78. Paddington, Lamoureux, and Ryan have been selected to represent Team B.C. in Kamloops this April.
