Peewees surge in the third

The Panago Peewee A Tyees scored twice late in the third period to pull out a 3-3 tie with the Comox Valley Chiefs Friday night at Strathcona Gardens.

The Panago Peewee A Tyees scored twice late in the third period to pull out a 3-3 tie with the Comox Valley Chiefs Friday night at Strathcona Gardens.

The Chiefs built up a 3-1 lead and appeared headed for their third straight victory over the Tyees until Sage Lim queued the comeback by snapping home a rebound with just under five minutes remaining. Campbell River then made the most of a late power play opportunity as defenceman Andy Stevens converted a great set up by Brett Stapley and Josh Coblenz and tied the score with just 2:39 left on the clock. It was the Tyee’s lone goal with the man advantage despite several chances earlier in the contest. Stapley opened the scoring in the first period and finished with three points.

The result means Campbell River remains tied with Comox for third place in the Vancouver Island Tier 1 standings but the Tyees have a game in hand.

They finish off the regular season this weekend with a pair of games in Victoria. On Saturday they take on the Juan de Fuca Grizzlies and Sunday faceoff against the Saanich Braves.
