Shelby Robertson’s goal in the third round of the shootout gave the Campbell River Peewee Hurricanes the championship with a 3-2 win over Oceanside on Sunday in the Powell River Female Recreational Hockey Tournament.

The win gave the Hurricanes a measure of revenge over Oceanside, a team which they had tied earlier in the weekend and lost to earlier this season. Austin Cameron also scored for the Hurricanes in the shootout, while goalie Taylor House turned aside two of three Oceanside attempts to secure the win. Sydney Cole and Cassidy Enns both scored in regulation for the Hurricanes, with Enns’ game-tying goal coming with just over five minutes remaining in the third.

The Hurricanes had earned a berth in Sunday’s final with a 2-0-1 record in three games on Saturday, starting with a 3-3 tie with the same Oceanside team they’d end up meeting the following day in the final. Jenna Beauregard scored a pair for the Hurricanes in that one, with Cameron scoring the other.

The second game of the weekend saw the Hurricanes explode in the second and third periods for a 16-0 win over Fuller Lake. Cameron and Cole led the offensive outburst with five goals and four goals, respectively, with both Beauregard and Enns scoring a pair. Delaney Ewing, Nicole Mortimer, and Robertson each scored one and House earned the shutout between the pipes for the Hurricanes.

Playing their third game on Saturday, the Hurricanes scored once in each period in a 3-1 win over Port McNeill. Robertson opened the scoring late in the first period, Ewing scored in the second, and Mortimer the third. Port McNeill got a goal late in the third to get within two and spoil what would have been House’s second consecutive shutout, but could draw no closer.

The Hurricanes will be back in action next Saturday morning against the PeeWee Blue at Strathcona Gardens (8:45).
