Peewee B Ravens take lead in round two of playoffs

The Campbell River Ravens peewee B team had a spectacular weekend in Victoria at Panorama Recreation last weekend

The Campbell River Ravens peewee B team had a spectacular weekend in Victoria at Panorama Recreation last weekend.

The Ravens were in a fight in the first and second round of playdowns to try and earn a berth in the provincials.

All rounds are best two out of three games.

The first round took place over one day – last Saturday – against the Saanich Tigers.

Campbell River narrowly beat out the Tigers in game one with a 9-8 score. In game two the Ravens’ offence exploded once again, and the defence came up big for the Ravens en route to a 9-2 victory.

In round two (Sunday) the Ravens came to the rink prepared to play at 10 a.m. but not knowing who they would be playing as the first round was still wrapping up that same morning.

Nanaimo would emerge as the Ravens’ opponent and Campbell River finished them off by a score of 6-2.

“The boys played the third period the hardest I’ve seen all season,” said Liz Billings, spokesperson for the peewee B Ravens. “You could see in their determination that they really want this chance to go to provincials. We came home very very proud of our boys.”

The Ravens will play their second game of round two today in Nanaimo, time to be determined at press time.

The Ravens are still collecting bottles as a team fundraiser. To donate bottles call Coach Cory at (250) 923-5340, pick-up can be arranged.
