Members of Campbell River's Strathcona Triathlon Club competed in Courtenay last Sunday

Six members of the Strathcona Triathlon club headed to Courtenay last Sunday to compete in the Shoreline Orthodontics Tri-K and Duathlon.

The adult triathlon is a sprint format with a 750-metre swim, 20-kilometre bike ride and a five-kilometre run. The duathlon consists of a 5 km run, 20 km bike and then another 5 km run.

Campbell River’s Sue Bennet placed first in the female 50-59 category besting her husband Lance who took second place in the 60-69 age group.

Linda Nagle took second in female 60-69 and Arlen Halwa, in her first-ever duathlon, placed second in the open category.

Other club members participating were Carla Valentine and Karla Leighton who raced in the very competitive 40-49 age group.

The Strathcona Triathlon Club is its general meeting on Monday, 7:30 p.m., at the Royal Coachman Neighbourhood Pub. Anyone interested in triathlon is welcome to attend. For more information visit
