A reduced field of riders wrapped up the Vancouver Island Motocross Association Spring Series in Campbell River on a hot, dry weekend, but a much bigger show is expected when the BC Championship Series visits town Aug. 1-2.
Local riders Levi Reimer and Jeff Banks won their respective classes unopposed in Round 10 of the the VIMX Spring Series, held June 28 at Campbell River Motocross Track.
Ashton McCay of Campbell River and Mathew Dobler of Black Creek added runner-up finishes. Campbell River's Tyler Neil placed third in both the Youth and Intermediate MX-2 divisions, and fellow local riders Mason Couture, Ryan Brett and Dillon Harris also placed third in their respective division.
Despite the low turnout, the event drew riders from clubs across Vancouver Island and Salt Spring Island, as well as the Okanagan Valley and even one competitor from Fort McMurray, AB.
The Campbell River Motocross Association will team with VIMX to host Round 2 of the BC Championship series at the local track Aug. 1-2. An $800 prize purse donated by Gas-N-Go for the Pro class is expected to provide an incentive to bolster the field of riders for the premier competition.
