Joanna Williams set a new meet record in the Senior girls 800-metre run to highlight Campbell River Christian School’s appearance in the BC Christian School Track & Field Championships in Abbotsford last week.
Both the Senior girls and Senior boys placed fourth overall in the team competition, with 16 schools from across the province competing.
The Grade 8 boys placed fifth in the team standings, and CRCS earned a seventh-place finish in the combined school standings.
Williams won the 800 metres in a meet-record of two minutes, 26.9 seconds and added a win in the 1,500 as well as a runner-up finish in the 400. Nathan Downey added a win in the Senior boys racewalk.
Other top finishes among seniors include:
Zach Allemekinders (2nd triple jump, 3rd long jump); Kaitlyn Falk (2nd discus, 2nd javelin); Kim Geyser (3rd discus); Samuel Welsh (3rd 400, 4th 800; 5th 1,500); Steven Coulter (3rd 1,500); Jesse Ziolowski (3rd high jump); Carly Davis (4th discus) and Jenn Miller (5th, discus).
Junior place-winners included: Nathan Glum (3rd hammer); Philip Welsh (3rd 400 metres) and Jack Milliken (4th hammer, 5th 1,500).
Grade 8 place-winners were: Janna Hennig (3rd, javelin) and Peter Heyd (3rd, high jump).
