The Inaugural CCCP Speed & Power Track and Field Meet was held at the Vanier Oval of the Comox Valley Sports Centre this past Saturday.

After several years without a local track meet, the newly resurfaced Vanier track was the perfect location for this competition.  It was a one day event co-hosted and run by the four local track clubs, the Campbell River Comets, Campbell River Christian School, Comox Valley Cougars and Powell River, thus the name “CCCP”.  Although it was a combined effort of the coaches, officials, volunteers, athletes and parents, there were a few individuals from Campbell River that were integral in the success of this track meet.  Comets Coach Dave Ashcroft, Comets Coach Vince Sequeira and C.R.Christian School Coach Kathy Andrews took on the lion’s share of organizing and running the entire meet.  From coordinating the many necessary officials, gathering the equipment for all the events and organizing volunteers while still coaching and encouraging the athletes, these individuals went above and beyond to make it happen.
