Even though I love all kinds of cycling, I am definitely a mountain biker first.
Ninety per cent of the time when I have a spare hour to go ride, you’ll see me aimed for the best single track with a big smile. If I’m short on time or training for a race I’ll grab the road bike a bunch and I really enjoy it, but it’s not my strongest discipline by any stretch. Commuting is great but if I can swing it, I’ll squeeze in some trail riding on the way to work, as opposed to sticking to the main path in the Beav.
BUT, when the weather gets warm, the days get long and the warm ocean breezes start kicking in, I crave my cruiser bike.
There is nothing like sitting back, enjoying the fresh air and pedalling slowly along the sea walk. The people watching, the sound of the waves and the complete relaxation it brings is by far my favourite way to spend a Sunday evening.
The only thing better is getting a group of friends together for a big cruiser ride, a few pub stops and a beach fire.
So, next Saturday, June 17, we will be gathering up as many cruiser riders as we can and heading out for our annual Summer Solstice Cruiser Ride.
A custom cruiser bike makes it more fun, but any bike will do the trick.
